First weekend

In efforts to skip right over jet lag, I woke up bright and early on my first day for some mini golf fun with India, the Au Pair who I am taking over for. India, Renae (host mom), Campbell and I went mini golfing on my first morning, followed by a yummy lunch. We ran some errands, set up my Australian bank account, went to the grocery store, and kept busy for the day. This was great because it helped distract me from that fact that it was the middle of the night in my California mind. Mark cooked some delicious teriyaki beef with soba noodles for dinner, and Renae and I watched Pitch Perfect, which was a perfect way to end the first day, and keep my laughing and awake.

Campbell beat us all!
Two Au Pairs, Lucky Campbell!

On Saturday morning, I went to a Science themed birthday party for two of Campbell's school mates. The boys did experiments, and had tons of fun. We spent the rest of the day hanging out, and getting ready for India's goodbye BBQ, which was delicious. Mark BBQ'd and Renae made homemade garlic butter for pull apart bread, potatoes, salad, and homemade muesli in Hermie the Thermomixer (I'll explain later once I've tested it out myself -- so COOL!) I also tried driving for the first time, on the opposite side of the road, which was an experience. One of my favorite things about traveling and living abroad is that little things like driving, turn into a learning experience. The blinkers were on the opposite side, I had to drive on the left side of the road, and the steering wheel was on the right hand side of the car! Even looking in the mirrors felt odd, but all it all, it was a good first little test drive.

steering wheel on the right?!
I've spent Sunday relaxing, putting together my room, finishing unpacking, skyping family and friends back home, watching Dr. Seuss with the boys, and getting ready for my first week as an Au Pair. I already feel at home, have met some awesome girls, and am loving living in Perth.
